How it Works (Key Components):

1. Data Preparation and Augmentation:

   • It expects your images to be organized into train and validation folders, each containing smoker and non_smoker subfolders.

   • ImageDataGenerator: This Keras utility is used to efficiently load images in batches directly from directories. It also performs crucial data augmentation (random rotations, shifts, zooms, flips, etc.) on the training images. This significantly increases the diversity of the training data, helping the model generalize better and reducing overfitting. All images are automatically resized to 224x224 pixels and pixel values are scaled to [0, 1].

2. Model Architecture:

   • The program loads the MobileNetV2 model without its original classification head (include_top=False).

   • The weights of this pre-trained convolutional base are frozen (base_model.trainable = False). This means the powerful feature extraction capabilities learned from ImageNet are preserved and not altered during initial training.

   • New custom layers are added on top of the frozen base:

     • GlobalAveragePooling2D: Summarizes the features extracted by the base model into a compact vector.

     • Dropout: A regularization technique that randomly "turns off" a fraction of neurons during training, preventing them from co-adapting too much and thus reducing overfitting.

     • Dense(1, activation='sigmoid'): This is the final classification layer. A single neuron with a sigmoid activation function outputs a probability between 0 and 1, perfectly suited for binary classification (smoker or non-smoker).

3. Training Process:

   • The model is compiled with the Adam optimizer (a popular and efficient optimization algorithm) and binary_crossentropy loss (standard for binary classification).

   • It then trains on your prepared training dataset, simultaneously evaluating its performance on the validation dataset after each epoch.

   • Callbacks (ModelCheckpoint, EarlyStopping): These are used to enhance the training process:

     • ModelCheckpoint saves the model whenever it achieves the best validation accuracy seen so far, ensuring you always keep the best performing model.

     • EarlyStopping automatically stops training if the validation loss doesn't improve for a specified number of epochs, preventing unnecessary training and overfitting.

4. Prediction Module:

   • After training, the program saves the best performing model to a .h5 file.

   • A utility function predict_image is provided to load this saved model and classify new, unseen images, providing a confidence score for the predicted class.
